Oh man, i'm convinced that I have bubonic plague. Well, not really, but it sure as heck feels like it! I think it started from the smoke from all the SoCal fires last week... first my throat hurt, then i was coughing.. and before you know it, i have a full blown cold. GRRRrrrr. I know that everyone in the office is looking at me like i'm the devil everytime i cough, excuse me, hack.

All i want to do is sleep, but sleep just isn't in the cards for me this week i guess. Tonight, I have to bake something to bring to my Italian class tomorrow night. It's "Portare uno spuntino" day in class this week... (Bring a Snack Day). And yea, I guess i could just go to the store and buy some pre-made halloween cookies or something... but i don't want to be one of those parents someday that buys cookies in a tin for their kid's bake sales. If I want to avoid that someday, I have to start learning to bake when i'm tired. haha

I also have to somehow create my halloween costume tonight. I have an idea... hopefully it all works out. it sort of snuck up on me this year. yikes!

Race Day Recap! [Oct. 22nd, 2007|12:47 pm]
I ran my 4th Half-Marathon yesterday! It was the Nike Women’s Half Marathon in San Francisco. I had been training and looking forward to this race since last year! I was lucky to have gotten an entry through the lottery because it sold out in just four hours! I usually get really nervous for races, but I wasn’t at all for this one. I knew I was trained and ready, and that was a new and welcomed feeling for me.

This was going to be the first race that I would run without any friends, without my camera and without a team. I knew it would be a mental challenge, rather than a physical one, but I was really excited.

On Friday night, Irving and I left Los Angeles at 11:30pm to drive up to San Francisco. We got into the city at 4:30am. We took a nap till about 9:30am and then  I took the subway into the city to visit the Race Expo. Those of you who run know that this is the best part of marathon weekend! I got my goody bag, chip and bib, and then I set out to get all the fun freebies (luna bars, ghiaradelli chocolate, postcards, chapsticks…). I also had my nails painted at the “Jet Blue Manicure Station”. And after that, they gave us cute little beauty kits with an eye mask and stuff! I love being a girl.

I also watched some of the panel speakers there. Joan Benoit Samuelson was there, and it was really amazing to see her run. She’s a legend. She’s the only American woman to have ever one an Olympic gold medal in the marathon. It was really great to hear her enthusiasm for the sport. I also saw Lauren Fleshman, who is an Olympic Marathon runner. And guess who else was there? Picabo Street, the Olympic Downhill Skier! That was neat to hear her too.

After the expo, I met up with some friends in and around the city, and had a nice carbo-loaded pasta dinner! I attempted to get to bed early, but didn’t end up sleeping til about 11:30p.

On Sunday, I woke up bright-eyed and bushy-tailed at 4:30am! I was ready to ATTACK this race. haha. I got to the city around 6am, bag-checked my coat and found my place at the starting line. It was freezing! I think in the 40s, but the energy was buzzing all around me.  23,000 of my closest friends were all lined up and ready to run.  The hardest part is standing around waiting to go. It took me 27 minutes just to get to the startline. But once I started going, I felt great. This is my 3rd year running this race, so I really had my heart set on breaking my time.  That’s what kept me going throughout the race.

Hi everyone!

I'm so so so excited for my 1/2 marathon on Sunday. It's the Nike Women's Half Marathon in San Francisco! I feel so ready to run. I know I trained well, I know my pace is faster than ever... I think I'll do just fine.

This is the first race that I am running for time. I'm not running with my camera (for the first time). And I'm not running with friends (which is sad, I'll miss you guys! but i'll be fine). It's going to be more of a mental challenge than a physical one. I hope I don't get bored while running, but I dont think I will. I am hoping to beat my half marathon PR time of 2:56...but if I cant do that, I want to break 3 hours if possible.

I'll make sure I post a full race recap on Monday, when I get back.  Wish me luck!

I am appalled. I just had a Yoplait Whips yogurt.... and one of the main ingredients is "High Fructose Corn Syrup". I almost gagged. So much for a healthy lunch. gross.

Hi everyone! I always think of great things to post about when I go out running, but then I get too lazy to actually write them down. I'm very excited about my training now. I feel that i have plenty of time to get stronger, faster and better. I am dead set on beating my time in the Nike Half Marathon. In order to do that, I have to work on my negative splits. I have to start out slower and get faster as the miles go on. I know I can do this if I add speed training to my workouts. (which i've been trying to do). Tonight, I'm going to run around outside after work and maybe add some lunges and squats in there too.

I'm being plagued by the millions of M&Ms scattered around my office this week.. but i'm determined to not touch them. ahhh... the temptation!

This weekend, I'm running with the "Team in Training" alumni. I'm so excited because these are the people that I trained with originally. I get so much energy from them. i just know i'm going to have a great run. Irv is going to get up at 5:30am with me and play a round of golf while i run. I'm so excited!

I saw a reallllly wierd movie last night: The Pineapple Express. Its coming out next year i think, and it was a very rough cut of the film, but it was so wierd. Parts were hilarious, and other parts were just dumb. I wonder what the final cut will look like and if it will do well in theaters.

And Tomorrow is the infamous Health Magazine "Girls Night Out". I cant wait. They're showing the film "Hairspray". Yay! I live for this stuff. :)

Today I ran a 5K. I beat my record for 5K distance. that's pretty cool!!

Then we went out to eat and bought a cupcake. Kinda defeats the purpose of health, but what the heck right? It's only America's Birthday once a year, might as well induldge.

Yea, i decided that i was due for a post. Life's been busy. Marathon training is now in full swing. I ran 5 miles last night.. in 96 degree heat. EW! But i was pretty proud that I did it. Even if it took me more than an hour. I definitely do better by myself, without an MP3 player. I love hearing my feet hit the ground. I love looking at my shadow when I run. I like to think "Wow, i'm looking pretty good. Great form". lol. Today I'm going for a hike after work.. and tomorrow I'm running a Patriotic 4th of July 5K. (Wish me luck!)

We're busy working on our condo. We've been doing some pretty cool things to the place. Its feeling more and more like a "home". I love it!

We bought a Ducane grill (Irving's new toy...) that has all these bells and whistles that no girl would ever think of (Rotisseree, side burner, smoke tray). But we went to hook up our Propane tank and realized that the store gave us a Natural Gas grill... so now we have to wait for them to come and convert it for us. BOOO... i want my CORN ON THE COB and KABOBS!!!!!!! grrrr.. hopefully it'll be up and running next week.

Irving's back in Vacation Planning mode again (after a few months of staying in.) So far, we've got a few in the works: Lake Havasu, Sedona, Grand Canyon.. maybe florida?

I am STILL waiting on You-Know-Who to ask me You-Know-What.... but so far, no luck. But i've decided that its best if I just sit back, and continue to wait patiently and enjoy the moment. I want it to be totally fun and surprising when it happens.

:)

I am totally, utterly bummed that the Space Shuttle flew over Los Angeles to land, and I didn't even hear the Sonic Boom. I waited for almost 20 minutes.... and it never happened. Oh well... guess i'll just have to wait for the next west coast shuttle landing. maybe next time, NASA?

I'm antzy today, i want to get out of work. its been soooo busy lately. I go home so mentally drained. ugh. I love it though, dont get me wrong. haha but i go home and watch 4 hours of tv. (America's next top model is great this seasn, by the way haha).

Have you seen Amazing Race lately? We are volunteering to do the Race/LA version of it.  Its an "Amazing Race" but in LA... we're getting paid to do it too, which is a plus. We are the ones handing out the clues and stuff. Thats in a few weeks, i'm excited about that. I love organized activities. haha.

we are going to the dodgers game on sunday. ashley gets 4 tickets to every home game, so she gave them to us. that'll be fun. She's the best!

It's sooo windy here right now. all the power keeps coming off and on again. a high voltage line fell on our building and the fire department has been trying to fix it all day. our garage door doesnt work now so my boyfriend had to take the train to work. I hope it comes on again before i get home!

Nike Relay Teams [Apr. 3rd, 2007|03:29 pm]
So last night, I ran with the Nike Running Club. We did relays in teams of 2!!! (in 1 mile incrememnts) And the mile marker was a quarter mile too far... so it ended up being a 4 mile sprint. UGH! I came in second to last... (a walker was behind me haha). I was partnered with some guy who wasnt very happy that I was on his team. haha i ran my heart out at a 9 minute mile pace, but i just cant keep up with those 6 minute mile nike runners. GEEZ! It was really disheartening because i felt like such a loser. I had to keep telling myself "Its ok, you can run a marathon, you dont have to go fast." But i just wanted to quit. haha. Running is supposed to feel empowering, and rewarding.. but i dont really like this competition. Especially since they had goodie bags for the winners. YOU KNOW HOW MUCH I LOVE GOODIE BAGS!!!! It was sad. i am just not a sprinter, nor will i ever be a sprinter... nor do i ever WANT to be a sprinter. I'm content with my 12 minute mile marathon pace...

Not to mention today i am SOO SORE!! I know that if i do speed workouts once a week to get faster, but I had doing those drills. I like to get into my groove, and hear my feet pound the pavement at a consistent pace. Speed workouts make my heart rate go up, and then i cant breathe.. and then i feel like I suck. when i run my own pace, i get a runner's high that lasts for days.. and with sprinting..i dont really get that.

When I started running 2 years ago, I was around a 14 minute/mile pace. Now, I'm consistently around 10:30/11 minute/mile pace. I shaved about 3 minutes off my time! Thats HUGE!!! And to think that all of a sudden i can cut that time in HALF to compete in a relay race is just stupid. My body isnt built that way. Those people are just crazy. (One guy did it while pushing a baby stroller!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME????)

Anyways, they're going back to normal runs next week, so i'm looking forward to that. Meanwhile, I'll be taking a nice long walk tonight to let my muscles recover.

I hate when I loose stuff. Don't you hate that pit in your stomach you get when you know something is missing? this morning, i realized that my silver necklace is missing... in reality, its probably  not actually missing, i probably put it somewhere and i dont know where I put it.. but what if it IS missing??? I'm at work now, and it's all i can think about. I just wish i was home so i could look for it. i dont know where it could be... i always take it off when i go running or something... but what if it fell off??? awe man, irving's going to be so sad if i really did loose it. I'm so sad, i cant focus. ahhhhhhh... usually things like this turn up, right?

Does anyone ACTUALLY ever wash their fruit from the grocery store? Sometimes I dont. Maybe because i'm lazy. Do you think it ACTUALLY matters?

In other news, my toe nail is still falling off. It is quite entertaining. I'm very excited about it. (backstory.. i ran the LA Marathon and thus I'm losing a toenail).

Irving and I are excited to go to Escondito this weekend. I looking forward to doing some running and swimming. YAY MINI VACATION!

I'm obsessed with the show "Search for the Next Doll" on Fox. Its so great. you should watch it.

that is all.
